post peak leaf

I just got back from 10 days in Sicily (another blog), and the leaves have officially dropped here in ol’ nutmeg country. the month of October is always a busy one with hosting friends along with 2 events culminating with the Nutmeg Nor’Easter, so I thought I would post a little retrospective here to the fallen leaves.

we always try and get some longer ones in the tank on those crispy fall days. it generally always perfect weather in every part of the northern hemisphere in October — but you really cant beat that Americana experience of experiencing it in New England. thats my take. so try as you will rest of the country!

I will try to go in order here from early October to peak at the peak. its the variety of trees that New England has that really make the show go, as they all have their own timers set as to when their leaves begin show time.

the nutmeg country club team jerseys and bikes made for quite the show themselves if I do say so myself. I think I speak for the general population though.

still need to go over some rules with the team, but despite the visor on his helmet, and the non team issue socks, Deetz looks pretty good here.

these were taken at the last chester farmers market for the year. always kinda sad to see that sunday activity end. not that chester is any less lit on the weekends afterwards. we pretty much take it over during the Nor’Easter.

time for the Goodwin Challenge! this is a 40 mile mountain bike race, or fun ride we put on with the East Haddam Land Trust.

you don’t want to miss it, I promise! will be IP weekend again in 2026. good cause, and as big and challenging of a loop as you will find anywhere in the north east. if you have been missing the vermont 50 due to it selling out, I will go out on a limb and say this route is better. I mean it! its more of a mountain bike event, where as I feel the VT50 is best on a drop bar bike, even though most ride mountain bikes. you NEED a mountain bike for this one.

the event ended and started at Yankee Cider in East Haddam. there were very well stocked aid stations throughout the route — so many great land trust volunteers. we raised 5k for the land trust. looking forward to seeing this event grow.

my olde college chum Riki came down from Maine for it. always fun to ride with my ol chum.

we also went on a little road ride to recover. this photo isn’t blurry, its just that Riki was going this fast on his all original 2000 IF Crown Jewel. he claims it still has the original ultregra chain on there. I remember the day he got this bike. you will have to use your imagination.

I am smitten with being a roadie again. the roads are so damn good here that I could only do that and be mostly happy. mostly.

then the ninth nutmeg nor’easter! the belle of the ball was Bradley’s brand new Weigle. wow.

I actually took more video than photos this year, so we will see how long it takes me to do a YouTube. maybe less than 6 months 😝

okay thats it folks!

XO RR

RE: being back into the roadie life — That’s the great thing about bikes, there’s always one there that matches your life’s rhythm. Roadie one year, MTB the next, urban fixed…etc.

Crazy bag there on the Weigle.
