New Haven apizza century

I am headed to the Dolamites mid June to ride a few of the road climbs that I’d dreamt of summiting in my younger years –shorn chest glistening in the rarified mountain air — jersey unzipped and wide open, flapping in the backdraft of my science enhanced climbing speed — crowd roaring — ROOOOONIE! can you picture it?

I am doing this trip with some roadie friends who I have trailed behind for the last 7 years or so when I last had a bad bought with Lyme disease. I am going to blame the ol’ Lymes for this one. at any rate, I feel better every day and am finally feeling like I can square off with my faster friends again.

with that in mind I have been really enjoying some longer all day rides on my now plentiful road bike collection. the following blog presentation is a 100 mile ride to New Haven for some apizza with my friend Joe on the pizza cutter bike. unfortunately he broke a spoke on the Mapei Colnago, so he was back on the 23mm tires — not that he would ever complain.

some really nice roads as we leave the Nutmeg Triangle … getting busier as we get closer to the greater New Haven area.

cloudy skies, but warm. the day is so long and you can feel it all day this time of year!

farms and barns. kept the route as rural as a squirrel.

New Haven we have arrived. the view of Long Island sound from the top of east rock. what a fun little climb!

then it was down hill to the famed Little Italy of New Haven. it was an off time, but both Sally’s and Pepe’s had lines down the block, so we decided to hit up Zineli across the street.

we were not disappointed. how indulgent!

a cortado at coffee pedaler and we were fueled to head east.

our route took us on some tracks and through the old shoreline trolley museum hobby zone of sorts. cool cut through — avoided a busy section of the havens.

actually quite dang cute. we didn’t mind a little walking in such a beautiful spot.

moody views of the thimble islands.

just passing through near Stony Creek. some real edgy youths must have been here!

Joe pealed off in Madison and it was just me up through chester back on familiar roads.

roads…. well it was mostly road.

XO Ronnie!

has a pretty good ring to it. I will bounce it back and forth in the mirror a few times and see before I go shaving my legs again
