hott wett summer so far

last night on the way back from Guilford

not much of a story telling session here, as I realize I have not been keeping up with my medias and such. suppose that is summer though! even though there’s 15 hours of daylight, there just isn’t time for typing/scrolling/video editing etc. I have a thing about being outside, and if the sun is out, then my body needs to be out on the frying pan. Leo season for a Leo.

we have to drive an hour plus back and forth to waterbury a few times a week… its only temporary though. we will be moving nutmeg needleworks closer to us within the year. but for now, those times spent as a passenger in the car are what would ordinarily be my time to do this sort of thing — or that’s what I think, who knows though. I am generally done with work by 3ish – 5ish and then its time to chose what bike to ride. sometimes that takes longer than you’d think as I don’t necessarily keep the whole stable in working condition.

been having some great group road rides in the HEAT

many days its been the roadie bikes. the speed and wind in the face/under the opened shirt become respite for the heavy air. hot bods glisten, muscles show their striations, and our strava weekly milage counts double.

excuse the lack of spare tube wrapped in the bandana under the saddle — that tube was needed with my dried up sealant.

fresh sealant does not last long this time of year if you leave your bike out in the sun much. the proportion of folks messaging me on the ultradynamico account that their tires wont hold air overnight always goes up in July as those pin holes don’t like to stay particle packed when its over 80 deg F — especially on light tires.

Brendan came to visit from Colorado! you can tell he is from Colorado because of that visor on his helmet.
Lars, a local middle school history teacher is leaving us to move in with his partner in Syracuse… we miss him already.
those new Vittoria open corsa tires are dream boats! have you been watching the tour?
this stone house was built in 1638. we got stoned at the old stone house you could say
I think we were all expecting DMX
we live here

the red coats are coming and going all the time. that above photo is from the Deep River Ancient Muster over the weekend. why was I never offered to muster growing up around here?? not that I would oblige, but I would have liked to have been offered a chance ya know?

hi Cass!

a quick stop over by our friend Cass Gilbert of the highly influential blog of the blog era while out riding. Cass is from Olde England, but was here checking out NEW England for the first time. the photo above was how I found him in downtown chester, the paris of nutmeg country — we had several pizzas and took the ferry back across the river to our home where he hung with us for several days — catching up and musing etc. Cass has been living off the bike for decades at this point, and has humbly seen just about everything everywhere. the character built with these experiences along with his alluring British accent make him one of the best guests around.

I sent him off on this 3 day overnighter to sample the eastern regions of our area. maybe you’d be interested also. unfortunately the ferries closed due to high water from the flooding up north — but he still got some great photos! miss you already Cass!

water sports!

weve been on the water a bunch this year — we take this big ol’ canoe across the CT river and paddle it to chester for a night out on the town. last time we went we paddled back in the dark. sounds scary, and it kinda was …. but the lightning bugs and the silence of a place that rolls up the sidewalks at 7 made for a blissfuly romantic evening.

me and mom

had a nice long weekend with my amazing mother up and out in New Paltz New York last month for her 70th b day. we like to do these kinds of things together to celebrate milestones — we have always ridden together — we got into riding together. for her 65th she did 5 days on the great divide mountain bike route with us. another wonderful time was had, albeit among more comforts than her 65th. She is vegan, so the dining, winery, and bakery options of New Paltz were fully utilized!

Long Island sound

I think that just about catches us up —hope you are all staying wetttt out there!

I was also curious if anyone had to wrestle the guy in front of the fred emerson boat house for bragging rights? I saw that he was wearing a wrestling singlet and figured things could of got out of hand real quick. ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally scored some ortho bars from crust (after a long………wait…I just happened to be traveling in a hotel up early drinking a latte and getting a mani pedi and saw they were in stock and figured I could catch up on some beverly hills 90210 reruns before ordering…Fast forward I almost missed the boat but was lucky to get them in black. As a aging 51 year old ALT cyclist ( A bronze God some would say) I’m hoping they will give the old back some love!

hi Davey, thanks for liking my bikes! yes the frank grav bike is very light. building up my production model now for the MADE bike show in Portland at the end of the month. the concept is a timeless grav’l bike that you wont have to replace every few years. still light, still very fast etc. and yes, it will have fender mounts. all that polished aluminum with the polished hanjos mmmmmmmmm

Gosh darn, what a treat to spend time with the two of you, talk bikes, ponder life, and meet your Nutmeg amigos.

I hope to return such heart-opening hospitality in Oaxaca in the not-so-distant future!
