hi and happy saturday — I know I said the Hanjo Fender factory tour was gonna be the next post, but I have these glam shots I’m sitting on … so lets sip some exotic coffees and waft the aluminum aromas this a.m.

the build all started with these blue Paul racer direct mounts — then I made a decal to bring those in — and then it was the Cane Creek EE Aegean blue cranks. then it was awwwwwwn.

the cranks came to me unmarked with just the double spider — but they were undercover 73mm spindle — so that set me back a few while they got me the correct 68mm spindle. it had been some time since I’d installed anything other than square taper or Campy ultra torque — but these were very easy once the correct spindle length was presented. nice tight Q too. and dang they are light! but it will cost you 💰. wish they offered a 94 bcd spider so I didn’t have to use a 36-38 big in the rear with road link — also wish 94 bcd rings were more readily available. suppose its time maybe I do something about that. I bet Sal at Shovel Research can make a 94 double spider for cranks like this. Sal?
these 110 bcd spiders will do a 34 inner ring — they say they can accommodate a 32, but good luck finding one. a 94 spider can do a 29. 44-29 with an 11-34 in the rear is my ideal gearing.

I home baked that seat post “ano” job. why not? I also like to make curly’s out of the cable ends some times. i like these 2 shots.

ended up finding enough of this Nokon housing bead stuff from an old pile of mine left over from 2006. and bonus, its blue! that lil wave of cable right there can be a tight fit to make the cable run ideal — this stuff works wonders in situations like that.

XTR M900 hubs — the definition of a basic hub in all the best ways. love that you can still find em’ in this kind of shape so many decades later. loose balls baby.

take a look up, and down

here is a little photo of the shop yesterday right after I finished this build. nice light on that chair I just picked up from my uncle. been in the fam for a few generations. maybe this ALUMAX will have a similar trajectory. a chair for the ages.

PS if you want to sniff a little deeper, here is the link to a 6min YouTube I did on this bike yesterday. busy day!
