non bike photos italy

there were a lot of other things to take photos of — although I know this is a bikes blog and all, I do have fun just slowly walking or riding around taking photos of other things too. this trip I only brought 1 camera — my Ricoh GRiiix with an effective 40mm 2.8 fixed lens. I also brought the wider GRii (non x), but forgot the charger. typical. would have been cool to have 2 different focal lengths in such small packages, but dang — consistently impressed with the GRiiix.

I really like the one above on the left. i went for a bunch of walks once we were in Portofino since our bikes were packed away in an overstuffed rental car parked a 20 min walk from where we were staying.

plenty of classic Italian riviera beach scenes to be captured. this was on a long hot walk to Santa Margherita, a larger town in the area.

they do the beach life well in a place that maybe always saw beach life? did folks hang out on the beach in the middle ages in their chainmail bikinis??

the details are everywhere — something overlooked in newer built places in the US. New England has em, but not as ornate. I enjoyed keeping an eye out for them.

the pace and quality of life feels right. right enough that we keep coming back, and so do our friends — so that makes for some memorable times that you want to chase.

rewind to the first day on the coast — we went on a hike to the beach. it was a lovely way to see the coastline — I am more of a hiker than a beachcomber, and there was not much of a beach — so even better!

very steep hiking — but you could also take a ferry boat to this beach. the Kardashians were here for that Travis Barker wedding too. what do you think goes on in T-Bark’s head? rhetorical

we had a pleasure of meeting up with Jonny Pucci and Maya for a few nights. bike related — Jonny Pucci paints Richard Sachs frames, and many others for Joe Bell.

these were some photos of my brief dip into Switzerland by bike. some cool olden infrastructure over there indeed. being neutral really preserves.

here is the light house at Portofino — there was a wedding going on in the castle nearby, and they had a techno “sax man” belting away in the background. felt fitting.

some roads high above portofino that led up to the 80k of hiking trails. very peaceful up there, and I made sure to appreciate.

appreciated the whole trip, hope you enjoyed the slideshow!

40mm focal length has always been my favorite. My weapon of choice for a long time was the Pannny GX1 with 20mm (40mm equivalent) pancake lens. You have a good eye Mr. Romance. Many nicely composted photos here.

thanks! and yes, agreed — great focal length — and with the big sensor on the Ricoh, I can crop in post to get a longer shot.

hi! glad you like them. I love a good photo walk. these are raw with a preset in Lightroom. I enjoy the edits as much as taking the photo, and its a nice wind down activity for me

can’t recommend enough. I have had both the Sony RX100 and the Fuji X100 for the job, but the Ricoh wins for me

Nice photos Ron. The shot of Tenzig sprouting the yellow floral arrangement with a matching dress should win an award.
